I have a big announcement for Catie Cooks! I have been thinking a lot about how I can take my blog to the next level in the coming year. I have two new projects coming at you for 2019.
First, I am going to be working on a recipe index for all my original recipes. This will be added as a new tab to the blog menu and will be an easy access to all the recipes I have already posted and all those still to come. You can expect short but clear recipes that should be easy to follow. This is meant to allow people to review my recipes if they don’t want to read paragraphs of me babbling on with my thoughts. I know some people who might appreciate that.
The second project is the one I am most excited about though. I was inspired recently when watching The Final Table on Netflix. I was mesmerized by watching these high caliber chefs cook and plate dishes from around the world. It really got me thinking. I want to explore what food the world has to offer.
I consider myself a fairly adventurous eater. Especially living in DC, I try to experience many different cuisines from around the world, but there is still so many I haven’t tried. I want to travel across the world through food. So, I am embarking on a journey to cook a dish from each country.
Now, I am not making this a goal to finish this in 2019. I don’t want this to be a race to the finish end just to say I did it. I am doing this because I want to expand my culinary knowledge and also learn more about these different cultures. I am interested in learning about local ingredients and how availability and culture impact food preparation in each of these countries. This is meant to be a journey, so there is no schedule set. You can expect this wonderful journey to commence sometime in January.
I am super pumped to begin. I have spent way too much time this week researching ideas when I should have been cleaning and prepping for New Year’s Eve. When I get really excited about something, it is just about all I can think about, and this is no exception. I cannot wait to begin this project, and I hope that comes across in my writing.
Now, I am not going to pretend that I am an expert on any of these cuisines. Some of them I know nothing about. I am trying my best to find authentic recipes, but I know I will miss the mark at times. This is meant to be a learning experience and a way to appreciate different cultures. I am in no way attempting to co-opt anyone’s culture. If you happen to be reading anything I write about your culture, please share your insight and also correct me if I misspeak. My resources may be limited, but my desire to learn is strong.
So, what will I be making from Brazil, Indonesia, my beloved Italy, and even Canada? Well, you are just going to have to wait and see. 🙂
